Less touristy than you might think

The Eiffel Tower is the most visited paid-for tourist attraction in the world. Almost seven million people travel to see it every year, and over three quarters of them are not French.

Despite this, there is no horde of sellers pushing cheap merchandise on you around the tower and the area is not as insanely busy as you might well imagine.

You should be able to get an unencumbered view of the tower (it is hard not to given how tall the thing is) and savour the moment of being next to one of the world's top icons.

You can still book your tickets online ahead of time which, unless you want to spend time queuing, is no bad thing. The less time spent queuing after all is more time to spend on your holidays doing holiday type things!

Climb the Eiffel Tower to really feel its size

The Eiffel Tower is 324m at its tip. You obviously can't go right up to the very top but you can climb up to the upper level and get a higher view of the surrounding areas of Paris.

One of the better things about climbing up is that you get a real sense of the construction of the tower and its size once you are engulfed by it.

You have the option of the elevator and the stairs. The stairs are often less crowded than the elevators as a point of order. The Globedge recommendation is to take the elevators up and then take the stairs down so that you save your energy but get to enjoy the scenic trip down the 704 stairs.

The view is better at night

Paris is a beautiful city but the place looks stunning in the evening. Try to time your visit and trip up the Eiffel Tower for night time to get a really exceptional view. As with most big cities Paris looks amazing at night. If you can only go up the tower during the day then fear not, you will still have a great time and see a stunning view of the French capital. You will also join the group of people to have climbed the monument which is no bad thing.

After climbing all that way you no doubt deserve a bit of a treat (even if you took the elevator....) so taste some champagne at the top of the tower and toast the achievement.

You might want to have the champagne before you start taking photos because there are little to no places where you can put the plastic flute glass down (and they have no flat base to put them down). It'd be a nightmare to try to take photos of the view while trying to keep a hold of a glass of champers.

Dine in style at Restaurant 58 Tour Eiffel

There may be fancier restaurants in Paris, some of which can point to multiple Michelin stars in terms of provenance, but none offer the unique experience of being able to dine on the first level of the Eiffel Tower. What can be more perfect than clinking a glass of champagne up within the iconic structure while you sample some excellent food dishes.

Dinner is likely to cost you around €90 at a minimum per head so it is not a restaurant to book on a whim for many who travel to Paris, but if you are looking for a one of a kind memory when looking for a place to eat then you should consider booking a table.

The restaurant venue itself is very understated. The lighting used is not oppressive or overbearing. This all means that as you enjoy your meal you can focus on flavour and the stunning view of Paris and its city lights as the sun sets.

It is a fabulous way to dine in Paris and one that is high on the Globedge recommendation list for a visit to the city. There is even a photography service if you are in the mood to pick up a souvenir to remember your time dining high in the Parisian sky.

The Eiffel Tower is a place to take your loved one

If you are going to travel to Paris with your partner then the setting for some French affection (it is outside so let's keep it PG-rated at worst here people) is certainly the Eiffel Tower. Whether perched on the top of it or just within sight of it from elsewhere nearby in Paris, there is no doubting the feelings of romance that you will feel.

A finer embodiment of the 'city of love' we struggle to think of. The certain "je ne sais quoi" of time viewing the tower should just be savoured.
