Phuket in a nutshell
A bucket-list destination because of its spectacular setting and diverse offerings, the island of Phuket in Thailand is a dream come true. Visitors flock here to enjoy postcard-perfect stretches of white sand fringed by turquoise seas, extraordinary outcrops of limestone rising out of the sea, warm, friendly people and a variety of water sports and entertainment offerings to keep even the fussiest traveller happy.
Part of an archipelago of islands that include breathtaking ‘James Bond Island’, or Phang-Nga, on the west coast of Thailand in the Andaman Sea, Phuket is actually a Thai province as well as the largest island in its island group.
The island’s main town, Phuket Town, is its commercial center, while around the island are numerous stunning resorts offering an unsurpassed island vacation. Still recovering from the tragic Tsunami in 2004, this popular beach destination has not lost its allure.
People come here to explore its inland jungle areas, authentic villages and 36 exquisite beaches and usually stay in one of 3 resort areas on the west coast – upmarket Ao Patong, Ao Karon and Ao Kata next door.
