What you need to know about Rio De Janeiro

All who visit Rio are guaranteed to take away the most incredible memories after getting stuck into truly once in a lifetime things to do. Whether getting your snap next to Christ the Redeemer or taking advantage of the beaches and nature that surround the city, there are attractions and unique experiences that you can not find elsewhere.

Language: The locals speak Brazilian Portuguese which is very similar to the language of Portugal itself but has been localised over the years so there are some different turns of phrase and words used in Brazil.

Currency: The Brazilian Real (pronounced “Hey Ai”) is the local currency in Rio and the rest of Brazil.

Banking: ATMs are to be found all around Rio and all major cards are accepted. Get some local money to carry with you as it may well come in handy in some situations.

Weather: You will never find the weather to be too cold. For some seriously scorching summer sun make sure you book your trip around January as Rio is in the Southern Hemisphere so the seasons are reversed compared to places like Europe in the Northern Hemisphere.

Be prepared to be pleasantly surprised when in Rio De Janeiro

What springs to mind when you think of Rio de Janeiro? Beaches and a pretty huge statue, right?

There is a lot more to the city than just those things but let’s cover off the iconic sights and spots first of all. As well as the main highlights you should make sure you check out the little sights, bars, galleries and restaurants that you will happen across while you travel throughout the city.

Rio is the home of Christ the Redeemer

Christ The Redeemer stands proudly looking over the city. It is truly an icon of the modern world standing at {insert height} and being instantly recognisable and identifiable globally.

Erected in 1931 and designed by Paul Landowski as an incredible Christian monument that symbolises the very devout faith of many inhabitants of both Rio and Brazil. It is one of the most recognisable structures in the world so if you travel to Rio you have to make sure you get your photo taken next to it. When you trek to the site of it you will really be struck by the size of the monument (30 metres high on top of an 8 metre base.... plus 28 metre arms!) and just how impressive it is. A visit to the Redeemer 100% must be on your bucket list so get it firmly added to your itinerary when you are in Rio.
