NATAL

Natal

Sun, sea, sand and seriously fun times! Natal has it all and is a place that you will love kicking back in while you visit Brazil.

What you need to know about Natal

Language: The locals speak Brazilian Portuguese which is very similar to the language of Portugal itself but has been localised over the years so there are some different turns of phrase and words used in Brazil.

Currency: The Brazilian Real (pronounced “Hey Ai”) is the local currency in Brazil.

Banking: ATMs are commonplace in major Brazilian cities.

Weather: You are on the coast so you can expect some cooling time in the waves but the temperatures themselves are pretty fierce, especially in peak summer so pack sun tan lotion!

Life's a beach!

A sun-drenched haven found in the east of Brazil, Natal is a stunning place with excellent beaches and lots to see and do. The sand is absolutely a draw and they are pretty amazing while also being much less famous or crowded than the Copacabana in Rio.

Any sun worshipper is bound to love the area and can definitely find a good spot to top up their tan.

Morro do Careca is the most novel with its huge sand dune that slopes down to the shoreline where beautifully blue waters await. Elsewhere at Genipabu and Ponta Negra you will also find some brilliant beaches, and there are other areas to 'get your sand on' all over the area.

Aside from the beach there are great spots both new and old that are great to check out in Natal. The Reis Magos fortress is a fantastic place to visit to see one of the most important buildings of old. It is one of the best maintained old fortresses in the region and comes complete with cannon still in place and brilliant views of the surrounding area.
